Configuring Product Searches

Product searches such as those on the ecommerce online store could be configured by editing the file applications/product/config/prodsearch.properties. This file the relative weights given to the keywords which are generated from each of these Product-related entities.

To configure keyword aliases, use the Catalog Manager > Thesaurus screen. Enter the alias in the "keyword" field, and the keyword in the "alternate" field. For example, if you would like the results for laptop to be displayed when a user searches for "lapptop", enter "lapptop" in the keyword field and "laptop" in the alternate field, you can use "correct spelling" as the relationship.

To restrict the results of a search, set up a product category and associate it with your catalog as "SEARCH ALLOW". If you have such a category associated with your catalog, then only the products in this category will show up in search results.
